Neridian LHL979 Multipurpose Vehicle

The human Neridian Colony has established its military industry first with the big war to protect its young independence from the bigger systems and corperations.
On the hostile enviroment of Neridia 6 a society was born, what lives for survival. At the beginning of the war, it was for other big players just another planet to collect soldiers for its endless need. Without a real own military the Neridian colonists are only foot soldiers for the rich systems and die in huge numbers till the spirit, what keept them alive on its new homeworld, brings a quick addaption of technology and a mastering of even the most risky technologys and tactics. In the first times, the Neridians become famos for its combat modification of the usualy teethless LHL multipurpose vessels. Four coaxial plasmacannons, a huge amount of missiles for medium and big targets, a mine cluster battery and a massive turret with gaußcanon makes it a dangerous predator specially for capital ships. Today, gaußcanons of this size are forbidden weapons cause of its enourmous devasting on habitable planets. As second, they are wiped out to make super sized capital ships economically.
For dogfights it carrys also two smaller turrets with two high ROF plasma cannons and some small defense grenades each. The modern invention of energy shields was integrated soon and expand the livetime in combats. The big size for a gunship makes heavy energy support possible to run these shields in addition to the weaponary, even if the shield go down some moments when the gaußcanon fires.
Next, the strong engines work together with similar effective drives in front direction to reduce speed in space very quick or change direction and/or orientation of the ships body. Such maneuverability allows continuous fire to enemy ships while tumbling like a smaller fighter between capital ships, most time after the big hit is placed.
A weak was the front directed loading ramp, what gives a natural weak point. On all possible points, the front armor was stronged through patched plates, cause the civil basic construction doesn´t allow big armor in the hull design.
After some time, the LHL was replaced through mass production ships of non-neridian production, cause the high cassultys of the combined armys can´t be replaced soon enough from the small Neridian industry.
Later, the Neridians become popular for its mastering of the mechanised combat walkers, what can fight ground operations with the most less possible rate of cassultys in ground combats of the big war.
Later, the strange warriors codex of the Neridians let them die out like its weapon category does. The massive use of foot soldiers replace the specialised walkers with the argument of economical warfare, and the young colony dies out in the overexertion of the war.

Today the Neridians, its codex and weapons, are only a whisper under veterans who hear the storys as a young soldier. The Gunships are such a good crafted one, that even today some are in service, but only in civil hand and most time dearmed. The big fleets, who grants relative safe space, are of economical mass production and in shape of the big corperations assembly lines.
Most active LHL are in hand of pirates who loves its quick attack ability and pleased invest the money to keep the ship combat ready. But they are rare gems in the pirate fleets who had gathered a few of them. And no pirat was so stupid to search the blackmarket for a version with the gaußcanon.

The Spaceship is part of my SciFi-Story Der Fall Der Blauen Sonne(only in german, sorry) and serves some of the offspring of Neridian warriors as attack bombers and convoy escort, even if not in this variant. These versions are equiped with, today civil available, jump engines to operate independent from carriers while in combat zones.

Sie verließ die Oberfläche des kratervernarbten Planeten und sprang mit ihrem Geist in eines der K41-Leviathan-Schlachtschiffe hoch im Orbit des grünen Planeten um die drohende Invasion von Nahdaja-III aufzuhalten. Viele ihrer Brüder und Schwestern waren in der Gestalt schneller Angriffsjäger an ihre Seite gekommen.
Sie spürte den Verstand des Leviathan, träge aber ergeben. Sein Körper wurde langsam zu ihrem. Die Kälte des Raumes umgab sie, ihre Arme wurden zu zehn mal sechzig Lasergeschütztürmen, ihre Augen zu Langstreckensensoren und ihre Brust zu dem gewaltigen weißen Rumpf mit seinen schweren Energieschilden. Ihr weit geöffneter Mund entzündete den Plasmawirbel des Leviathan, der heute unzählige Schiffe verschlingen sollte.
Dann sprangen die Schiffe des Feindes in das System von Nahdaja. Das abrupte Zurückfallen in den Normalraum löste Kaskaden von Masseproj
